The “Intellectual Property Rights” (IPR) are legal rights pertaining to intangible properties i.e., patent, trade-marks, copy rights etc. which in India is protected under a statutory regime as provided under the provisions as per following statutes and sources of law: |

- The Patents Act, 1970
- The Copyright Act, 1957
- The Designs Act, 2000
- The Geographical Indication of Goods (Registration and Protection) Act, 1999, and
- The Information Technology Act, 2000.

| Enforcement of IPR and remedies in case of infringement: |
In case of breach or infringement of IPR, the owner of proprietary rights can get their rights enforced by an action for suitable remedy before a Trial Court or High Court. Criminal prosecution is also possible in respect of trade marks and copyrights violations especially in matters regarding counterfeiting and passing off.
